Information on Stafford Station

Stafford railway station stands at another important junction on the network of railways in Britain, from the south two branches of the West Coast Main Line meet here, the Trent Valley branch and the Birmingham branch. To the north of Stafford station the West Coast Main Line continues towards Crewe whilst the Manchester branch goes via Stoke-on-Trent.
The present and fourth station in the town of Stafford was built in 1962 by British Rail and consists of the Main Up side platform and high footbridge to the two islands beyond the through lines. A single-storey concourse housing the main facilities projects out from the lateral administration block which is raised to a second-storey height by pre-stressed concrete up rights and horizontal support beams.
Stafford station has five platforms in use and all are accessible from either of the main lines that approach from the south. Platforms 1 and 3 are used by trains to and from London with platforms 4 & 5 used by trains to and from Birmingham. Bay platform 2 is no longer used for passenger trains.
The stations visual display units were upgraded in 2007.
