The City Of Newcastle upon Tyne is a metropolitan borough of Tyne and Wear and in the historical and traditional County of Northumberland in North East England. The MS King of Sandinavia is a cruiseferry operated and owned by the Danish shipping company DFDS Seaways and sails on the route from Newcastle to Ijmuiden a city in the Dutch province of North Holland and the main town of the municipality of Velsen. Ijmuiden lies about 10 miles north of Haarlem.
The MS King of Scandinavia was built in 1987 as MS Nils Holgersson by Schichau Unterweser Bremehaven in West Germany for TT-Line shipping Company based in Germany. She transfereed to Brittany Ferries between 1993 and 2006 and was renamed MS Val de Loire for use on the English Channel until February 2006 when she was transferred to the DFDS Seaways shipping company.
