Lymington has two railway stations, Lymington Pier which serves the harbour area of Lymington and is the terminus of the Lymington Branch Line from Brockenhurst and provides a connection with the ferry service to the port of Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight and Lymington Town which preceds Lymington Pier and is the only intermediate station on the Lymington Branch Line from Brockenhurst with South West Trains operating the services on this branch line using refurbished “slam-door” trains unofficially known as the "Lymington Flyer" and operated as a “heritage” service.

The ferry service from Lymington to Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight has been operational since the 1970’s by Wightlink with three ferries named after Anglo Saxon Kings: Cenred, Cenwulf and Caedmon.
