Information on London Euston Station

London Euston's original station was opened by the London & Birminghm Railway in 1837 and went as far as Boxmoor, in 1838 it was extended to Birmingham to join the Grand Junction railway and creating the first main line to the North. More platforms were added in 1840 and a new station building before the decade was out. Euston then got more platforms and a roof between 1871 and 1873 and 20 years later more platforms were added, bring its total to 15.

The old Euston was reconstructed in a five year plan between 1963 and 1968, producing the current station which was opened on 14 October 1968 by the Queen. Its opening coincided with the electrification of the West Coast Main Line.

The new modern station included two office towers that look out onto the adjacent Melton Street and Eversholt Street and are home to Network Rail.

A statue of Robert Stephenson by Carlo Marochetti that once stood in the old ticket hall now stands in the forecourt.

British Land announced on 5th April 2007 they had won a contract to demolish the existing 40 year old building and rebuild a new terminus, this would result in the platforms increasing from 18 to 21.
