Information on London Cannon Street Station

London Cannon Street is a National Rail terminus station and London Underground station complex in the, financial district of the City of London. It was built on the site of a former medieval steelyard, the trading base in England of the Hanseatic League.
Entrances to the station are in Cannon Street and Dowgate Hill. The station is approached across the River Thames by the Cannon Street Railway Bridge, preceding the bridge is a triangular connection to both London Bridge and London Charing Cross Stations.
The two great towers, built to accommodate water reservoirs that stored water for the stations hydraulic system still stand 120ft above the station, restored in 1986 in conjunction with the Railway Heritage Trust and each topped by a weather vane proclaiming the original SER ownership.
There were originally eight platforms, but following the 1990s refurbishment the original platform 1 was removed.
The station connects the south side of the City to the south and south east London via London Bridge Station. Some services run directly into London Cannon Street from Kent and East Sussex, but only during rush hours. Occasionally during weekends when track maintenance is in progress, the station serves as an intermediate station between London Bridge and London Charing Cross. Either trains reverse at the station or rail passengers change trains here.
