Information on London Bridge Station

London Blackfriars station is located on the north bank of the River Thames immediately after Blackfriars Railway Bridge. Originally called St Pauls when it opened on 10 May 1886, changed its name to Blackfriars in 1937. Blackfriars was a Monday to Friday station catering for just City commuters, but this changed with the introduction of the Thameslink services which connected the SR network with the LMR Bedford Line via the old cross London exchange route through Snow Hill Tunnel to Farringdon.

There is also an underground station at Blackfriars which is currently closed for major engineering works and is due to reopen to commuters in 2011. Major works are also being carried out on the main line station which is being rebuilt, the office building above the station will be demolished and replaced, and the platform layout changed completely, with the old terminus platforms on the east side being removed and new platforms built on the west side.

Trains between City Thameslink and London Bridge will no longer have to cross the lines that lead to the terminus platforms. 12 car trains will replace the 8 car trains when all the modifications have taken place.
