Leeds Bradford International Airport is located between Leeds and Bradford and has easy access from the A1, M1 and M62 Motorways and is well signposted on all major roads. The airport is famous for the production of militay aircarft as Avro built a shadow factory on the aerodrome with outbreak of World War II including the Bristol Blenheim (250), Lancaster Bomber (695), Anson (Over 4,400), York (45) and the Lincoln (25). With the additions of two runways, taxiways and extra hangarage Yeadon as it was known became and import site for military aircraft testing.
In 1930 Leeds and Bradford Councils jointly purchased the airport site at Yeadon and in 1931 it opened as Yeadon Aerodrome. On May 4th 2007 the airport was privatised and sold to Bridgepoint Capita by Leeds, Bradford, Wakefield, Calderdale and Kirklees Councils who each had a share in the airport.
Getting to the Airport
Although the airport doesn't have its own railway station, proposals for the construction of a direct rail link are in the pipeline however no firm commitments or timescales have been announced. THe airport is served by direct bus services from Bradford, Leeds, Harrogate, York and the surrounding areas.
