Information on Exeter Central Station
On 19 July 1860 a station was opened at Exeter Queen Street, the then terminus of the London and South Western Railway's line from London Waterloo station, via Salisbury. Two years later on 1 February the line was continued through a short tunnel to the Bristol and Exeter Railway's station at Exeter St Davids.
Although Exeter Central is the smaller of Exeter's two main line stations, it is more centrally located and only a 5 minute walk to the city centre.
Exeter Central is situated on the London Waterloo-Exeter main line, and has two through platforms and one east-facing bay in use. There are two entrances, the main one being on Queen Street and a smaller entrance on New North Road. There is wheelchair access via the car park in Queen Street and a modern new North Road footbridge which was built with long ramps to the platforms.
Information on train services from Exeter Central Station
Exeter Central is served by trains on the West of England Main Line and operated by South West Trains from London Waterloo station to Exeter St Davids, although many continue onto Paignton or Plymouth. Occasionally these trains are replaced by First Great Western Trains at weekends when the route to Paddington station is closed for engineering work.
Local services are provided by First Great Western along the Avocet Line from Exmouth to Exeter St Davids where they generally continue to either Paignton or Barnsatple. Summer Sundays there are also trains to Okehampton in connection with the Dartmoor Sunday Rover Network.
