The pleasant East Sussex resort town of Eastbourne enjoys good rail services on the London Victoria to Hastings and Brighton to Hastings routes. Its elegant terminus lies close to the shops and seafront.
The present railway station in Eastbourne is the towns third and was designed by F.D. Bannister and dates from 1886. Eastbourne’s first station was at the end of a single track branch from Polegate and was opened on 14 May 1849 by the London Brighton & South Coast Railway, as the town became an ever more popular seaside resort the station had to be rebuilt in 1866, 1872 it was resited and then rebuilt again in 1886.
Trains reverse at Eastbourne station to continue their journey along the East Coastway by using a junction north of Hampden Park railway station, with services running either east to Hastings and Ashford International or west via Lewes to Brighton and London Victoria.
