Information on Doncaster Station

Doncaster railway station serves the town of Doncaster in South Yorkshire, England, situated on the East Coast Main Line, 156 miles north of London Kings Cross and about a ten minute walk from Doncaster town centre.
A temporary station for the Lancashire & Yorkshire trains from Knottingley was opened in the second half of 1848, with Great Northern services reaching the town a year later using a site a little to the south. In 1850 the GNR gave Doncaster a permanent station in its standard, prosaic pattern, and began a London-York service in the same year.
Doncaster railway station was rebuilt in its present form in 1938 and has had several slight modifications since that date. There are 8 platforms on two islands, with platforms 1,3,4 and 8 take through trains, platforms 2 & 5 are south-facing bays, and 6 & 7 are north-facing bays.
Having been recently refurbished and now directly connected to the new Frenchgate Centre extension in Doncaster town centre. Refurbishments include a new booking office for tickets and information, three new lifts, staircases and subway. A branch of WH Smiths and several Costa Coffee outlets have also recently opened.
