Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield, is the UK's newest purpose built International Airport and is located on the former RAF Airbase of RAF Finningley. It has one of the longest and widest runways in the UK having been extended due to the former RAF base being used for long range nuclear Vulcan Bombers. This also makes the the airport suitable for wide bodied,long haul and cargo carrying and business aviation. Situated 5 miles southeast of Doncaster and 18 miles east of Sheffield with easy access from the A638, A614 roads and the M18, M1 and A1(M) motorways.
Robin Hood Airport, Liverpool John Lennon Airport, Durham Tees Valley Airport, City Airport Manchester and the former Sheffield City Airport are all operated by Peel Holdings. Being Yorkshire's second largest airport behind Leeds Bradford Airport and handling just under 1.1 million passengers and serving over 40 destinations.
A new 62 acre technology business park is being built on part of the airfield along with a 150 bed capacity hotel by the Ramada Encore hotel chain.

Doncaster Airport doesn't have it's own station but Doncaster Railway Station is only 7 miles from the airport. Trains from Sheffield to Doncaster take 20 mins on direct services and 1 Hour 35 Mins from London King's Cross by GNER trains.
A planning application has been submitted to Doncaster Council with plans to build a new station on the former site of Finningley which closed in 1961, and lies on the Doncaster to Lincoln line which lies right next to the airport, and is hoped to be opened in 2011.
Regular bus services link the airport with Barnsley, Doncaster, Retford, worksop and the surrounding areas.
