Information on Darlington Station
Darlington railway station, also know as Darlington Bank Top, is the main railway station for the town of Darlington in the ceremonial county of County Durham, England. Located on the East Coast Main Line 232 1/4 mile north of London Kings Cross. The station itself is of Victorian structure and winner of the "Large Station of the Year" award in 2005.
Although its once famous locomotive works have long closed, Darlington reamains an important railway centre, proud of its heritage that stretches back to the opening of the first commercial steam railway: The Stockton & Darlington Railway in 1825. The present Darlington railway station dates back to 1887 and was designed by William Bell, the NER architect at the time.
Darlington Top Bank station has a full range of passenger facilities, including a buffet, newsagent, First Class Lounge and travel centre.
Information on train services from Darlington Station
Darlington is well served by trains on the East Coast Main Line, with regular trains to London Kings Cross via York, Newcastle, Glasgow and Edinburgh operated by
National Express East Coast.
2 tph run towards London and Newcastle for much of the day, with hourly services to Edinburgh and Glasgow served on a two-hourly basis. There is also a daily service to Dundee and Aberdeen.
Cross Country
services between Edinburgh/Newcastle and Birmingham New Street & beyond (to Oxford & Reading and to Bristol Temple Meads, Plymouth & Penzance) also call here twice each hour, along with hourly First TransPennine trains between Newcastle and Manchester
Airport via Leeds, Huddersfield and Manchester Piccadilly.
Northern Rail
run their Tees Valley Line trains twice hourly to Middlesborough, Redcar and Saltburn (hourly on Sundays), whilst the Bishop Aukland branch has a service every two hours for most of the day, increasing to hourly during the morning & evening peaks. The company also operates Sundays-ony trains to Hartlepool and Whitby, although the latter only run during the summer months.
