Coventry Airport is located in the Village of Baginton, Warwickshire about 0.5 miles (0.8km) outside of Coventry boundaries and 5 miles (8km) from the City Centre of Coventry. Since April 2004 when charter airline Thomsonfly started flying from Coventry airport it became a passenger terminal.The airport is jointly owned by, CAFCO (Coventry) Limited, Howard Holdings Plc and Convergence-AFCO Holdings Limited (CAFCOHL).
On may 30th 1982 a Gold and Blue Helicopter landed at Coventry airport, with a very important person on board, Pope John Paul II. It was part of his six day visit to Britain.
Like most airfields Coventry was used as a fighter station (RAF Baginton) but was severly damaged during the Luftwaffe bombings of Coventry in 1940
Coventry Aerodrome has a CAA Ordinary License Number P834 that allows flights for the public transport of passengers or for flying instruction.
Coventry City is 95 miles Northwest of London and is notable for being furthest inland from the coast than any other city in the UK. During World War II Coventry became the first city in the world to be twinned with another city Stalingrad (Now Volgograd), and after the war with Dresden as a mark of peace and also another 27 around the world. Coventry is the ninth largest city in England and the 11th in the UK. It also has two universities, Coventry University based in the City and Warwick on its Southern outskirts. Their football team is Coventry City FC (Founded 1883)and the Coventry Bees Speedway team (founded 1928) race at Brandon Stadium which also hosted the Speedway Grand Prix of Great Britain from 1998 to 2000.
Famous residents of Coventry include, Lady Godiva, Sir Frank Whittle the inventor of the jet engine, Philip Larkin novelist and actors Nigel Hawthorne and Clive Owen.

There isn't a train station at the airport the closest being Coventry Railway Station which is 15 minutes from the airport, with the 737 bus service connecting Coventry Railway Station with Pool Meadow Bus Station and Coventry Airport.
