The UK`s busiest airport outside
London
, Manchester Airport is located approximately 10 miles southwest of Manchester just off Junction 4 of the M60 with its own dedicated link road. There is a Skylink walkway linking the three terminals and an airport railway system.
Terminal 1 is home to Air France, bmi, Lufthansa, Ryanair and SAS amongst others. Monarch Airlines, Thomas Cook Airlines and Jet2Tours are based here. International and charter flights have separate check-in facilities. Airtours charter passenger check-in is situated on the lower level. The two zones are linked together by lifts and escalators.
Terminal 1 has a Travel Health Centre and an NHS walk-in centre available to all passengers. This terminal offers a wide range of shops including All`Ombra, Alpha Airport and Biza Tax and Duty Free as well as Boots, W H Smiths and Dixons. The business centre in Terminal 1 provides a wide range of support services for executive travellers and the Bolllin Lounge is open to children.
Terminal 2 is used by long haul and charter airlines serving international destinations. The airlines operating out of Terminal 2 include Air France, Air Malta, KLM, Continental, Delta, US Airways and Virgin Atlantic. Thomson Airways uses this terminal as its base. Check-in is on the upper level and Arrivals the lower level. The retail units at Terminal 2 include Hamleys Toy Store, Dorothy Perkins, Alpha Airport Shopping, La Senza and The Soft Shoe Company. There is a Prayer Room at Terminal 2.
Opened in 1989, Terminal 3 is the most recent addition to Manchester Airport. Built to serve British Airways services and many UK domestic flights, a number of international airlines also use the terminal. British Airways, Flybe, Bmibaby, BMI and EasyJet are the major operators at Terminal 3. Other airlines operating from the terminal include Air France, Adria Airways, .Air Southwest, Brussels Airlines and American Airlines.
Terminal 3 is directly linked Terminal 1 giving passengers access to a greater choice of catering and shopping outlets. The two terminals have access to places of worship. Terminal 3 passengers can use the services of a well-resourced business centre. Shops in this terminal include Alpha Airport Shopping, Tie Rack, Dixons, W H Smiths and Boots.
All three terminals provide extensive services including Bureau de Change, cash dispensers, Internet access and postal facilities. There are extensive catering outlets throughout the airport from fast food, operators, cafes and bars.
Throughout the airport check in times are 3 hours prior to departure for international flights, 2 hours for European flights and 90 minutes for domestic flights.
It is possible to make use of self-service check in facilities throughout
Manchester Airport
. These are quick, easy and safe to use. The distinctive self-service kiosks will print out boarding cards you to print your own boarding card and avoid the queues. Luggage can be left at the bag drop desk whose locations are prominently indicated on screens.
At Manchester Airport, International connections are not required to pass through Immigrations or Customs whilst all International to Domestic connections are. Domestic to International connections use their own special Immigration check.
In terms of aircraft movements, Manchester airport is 3rd in the country and, as well as serving northern Britain, it can offer a practical travel venue outside London for travellers or some international flights might involve transfers via London.
