The signs at Clapham Junction proclaim it to be 'Britains' busiest railway station, a status justified by the 2,000 trains per day, most stopping, pass through the station, and more than an other railway station in Europe. During peak times 180 trains per hour pass through the Junction, of these 117 stop.
Although called Clapham Junction the station is actually in the South-West of Battersea in the London Borough of Wandsworth with the main station entrance at the south from St John's Hill, leads into a subway which runs beneath the eastern ends of all platforms and onto a northern exit with limited opening hours.
At the western end a long covered footbridge connects all 17 platforms.
