Information on Cardiff Central Station
Cardiff Central (Welsh: Caerdydd Canolog) lies on the main line through South Wales, near the heart of the capital city. The location dates from 1850 when the South Wales Railway extended the GWR route from London down the Severn and along the Bristol Channel to Swansea. In 1932 the station was rebuilt using grey granite and Carrara glazed blocks.
Cardiff Central is the largest and busiest station in Cardiff and in Wales, it is also one of the major station on the British Railway network. Cardiff General is the tenth busiest station outside London and the 30th busiest over the UK rail network. Cardiff Central station is a Grade II listed building managed by Arriva Trains Wales.
Cardiff Central serves as an interchange between the rest of the South and West Wales to major British Towns and cities, with the station currently handling more trains per day than London Paddington.
Located on the main concourse are the following facilities, ticket desks and machines, cash machines, information desk, dot matrix departure and arrival screens, public telephones, WCs, a branch of W H Smiths, an Upper Crust take away, sandwich bar,and a branch of M&S simply food store. A Burger King outlet can be found on Central Square.
