Airport Taxi Transfers
Heathrow airport is the UK`s largest and busiest airport. It is ranked as the 5th busiest airport in the world and handles around 67 million passengers annually. Used by more than 90 airlines to provide routes to around 170 worldwide destinations, Heathrow stands to the West of London, roughly 14 miles out of the city centre.
Passengers disembarking at Heathrow have a range of options for their onward journey, from taking a bus to hopping into a private car, taking the train or even walking to their final destination. Taxis are available at all the five terminals and in many cases, choosing to take a taxi from the airport is the most flexible and convenient way to travel into London and beyond.
One of London`s great icons, the black cab, can be found at taxi ranks outside all the terminals at Heathrow. Typical fares into the city, however, range from £50 - £55 and the journey will usually last from 30 minutes to an hour depending on time of day and the weight of traffic on the roads.
Specialist tax transfer firms can almost always offer substantial savings against the cost of a black cab. If a taxi is shared between three or more people, the cost will be comparable or sometimes even cheaper than taking the train or a bus. At busy periods it can pay to agree a price with the driver prior to commencing the journey rather than use the meter to avoid the charges racking up whilst in stationary traffic. Taxis have the added benefit of being allowed to use the London bus lanes so can bypass rush hour traffic queues, so can even make the journey quicker than by bus.
Private hire taxis need to be booked in advance, usually by telephone or online as they are not allowed to pick up from the side of the road. However, many taxi companies are able to track the arrivals of flights at the airport and will therefore make allowances for delayed or cancelled flights without any penalty to the person booking their service.
Taxi companies often offer fixed price transfers regardless of the time of day, which can be especially helpful to those needing a transfer during rush hour who would otherwise be sitting in traffic queues with a meter running. The driver will often meet their passenger at the arrivals gate and escort them to the vehicle, lending a hand with the bags if necessary.
Driving yourself can be an appealing option to some. Check for signs at the airport for
